City Square Park
Enjoy a shady retreat in the city Square Park located in
the downtown district. Check out the Veteran Memorial Monument,
Pleasantville Fire and Curfew Bell and the Time Capsule scheduled
to be exhumed July 4, 2038. Rest on the benches available,
under the watchful eye of the lion donated by the Pleasantville
Lions and Lioness Club while you enjoy the annual plantings
provided by the Pleasantville Garden Club.
Gladys Black Memorial Garden
This beautiful, little garden, located in Cora Shadle Park,
with a 20-foot chimeny swift tower and shelter as a focal
point serves as a reminder of this dedicated lady's accomplishments.
It is a getaway where one can sit and feel the spirit of
Gladys as nature's sounds and sights massage the senses.
The Pleasantville High School horticulture class and FFA
developed a butterfly garden and other areas of plantings
to attract birds. This is complemented by a daylily patch,
one of Gladys' favorite flowers, and bird feeders and bird
houses with natural and ornamental grasses rounding out the
mix. A nature trail, that includes a bridge over a ravine
and pond with aquatic garden, provides another venue for
absorbing the delights of nature.
Shadle Park

Shadle Park is located west on Jones Street. A log cabin
shelter that features a fireplace, picnic tables, and running
water is available for rental from May to early October.
Another covered shelter is nestled among shade trees along
with playground equipment and overlooks the park pond. Lighted
basketball and tennis couts are located nearby as well as
restroom facilities.
Five regulation ball fields and soccer fields make up the
recreation area of the park system. These fields accomodate
baseball and softball, as well as men and women slow pitch.
An active group of volunteers make up the Little League
Association. Organized basketball, softball, baseball, volleyball,
football, and soccer are available for a wide range of age
groups.
